Özyeğin University

EAP Instructor

Istanbul, Türkiye | 2022 – Present

At Özyeğin University, I teach academic English to university preparatory students at B1 and B2 levels. In addition to classroom instruction, I have focused heavily on educational technology, workflow improvement, and the development of digital learning resources.

My work has included Moodle course development, AI-assisted content creation, interactive browser-based learning activities, and digital-first classroom practices designed to reduce reliance on printed materials.

I developed a Moodle-based grammar revision resource that was later adopted by several instructors. I also redesigned the Speaking Center’s Google Sheets-based recordkeeping system, introducing structured data entry, automation, and workflow improvements. The redesigned system was adopted by the Teaching and Learning Development department and remains in use today.

More recently, I have experimented with AI-assisted speaking and writing assessment workflows using transcription, speaker diarization, OCR, and rubric-based feedback generation.

Istanbul University Dil Merkezi

EFL Instructor

Istanbul, Türkiye | 2018 – 2022

At Istanbul University Dil Merkezi, I taught general English courses to adult learners ranging from A1 to B2 levels. My students included working professionals, university students, and secondary school learners.

This period marked the beginning of my interest in educational technology. After becoming dissatisfied with the limitations of the institution’s learning management system, I researched alternatives and independently deployed a Moodle server to support my courses. The project generated significant interest within the institution and helped shape my long-term interest in learning technologies.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I transitioned courses to online delivery and developed portfolio-based assessment systems when traditional testing methods became impractical. I also curated and developed instructional materials aligned with course objectives and student needs.

British Side

EFL Instructor

Istanbul, Türkiye | 2016 – 2018

At British Side, I taught general and business English to adult learners in classroom, one-to-one, and corporate training environments.

A significant portion of my work involved off-site instruction for corporate clients, adapting lessons to professional communication needs and workplace contexts. These experiences strengthened my ability to work with diverse learners and tailor instruction to specific goals and environments.

British Time

EFL Instructor

Istanbul, Türkiye | 2016

British Time was my first teaching position during and immediately following CELTA certification. The role provided foundational experience in lesson planning, classroom management, communicative language teaching, and adult education.

Staples

Copy and Print Center Supervisor

Santa Maria, California | 2008 – 2013

Before entering education, I worked as Copy and Print Center Supervisor at Staples. I managed daily department operations, customer consultations, equipment maintenance, and staff training while maintaining relationships with local businesses and community organizations.

The role combined business operations, customer service, project management, and employee development. Looking back, many of the skills that later became important in teaching—explaining processes, training others, solving problems, and improving workflows—were already present in this position.

Community Service

Bike Church

Volunteer Bicycle Mechanic and Instructor
Santa Cruz, California | 2013 – 2015

The Bike Church is a community workshop focused on bicycle repair, education, and self-sufficiency. As a volunteer instructor, I helped community members learn maintenance and repair skills through hands-on guidance and problem solving.

Although this experience predates my teaching career, it played an important role in shaping my understanding of education and the satisfaction that comes from helping people discover what they are capable of accomplishing.
